We are at the heart of Granada, at the confluence of the Gran Via and the Reyes Católicos street. On the occasion of the fourth centenary of the discovery of americas, in 1892, was charged to Mariano Benlliure the development of a memorial in which was represented Isabel the Catholic queen, at the time of the chapter to Christopher Columbus, for which he was empowered to explore the territories that may exist beyond Atlantic ocean.
Benlliure made the group of sculptures in Rome and was first installed in Paseo del Salón, until it was moved to its current location.
