The Picasso tower is a skyscraper located in the Pablo Ruiz Picasso square, within the commercial district of AZCA, located along the Paseo de la Castellana in the financial heart of the Spanish capital. It was designed by American architect Minoru Yamasaki (who also designed the World Trade Center in New York).
Its construction began in late 1982 and was inaugurated in December 1988. Since then, this has been the tallest building in Madrid, beating the Tower of Madrid, until the construction of four towers of the CTBA. It was also the highest in Spain until it was surpassed by the Gran Hotel Bali in Benidorm (Alicante). The Madrid telecommunications tower Torrespaña surpasses Torre Picasso in height will not be classified as building but merely as self-structure (like the CN Tower in Toronto).
