The so-called " Salto de Roldán " is a rock formation in the Huesca Pyrenees foothills , Upper Aragón. It consists of two huge stony masses that form the gateway to the Sierra de Guara and advance as bows on the Hoya de Huesca. This is the San Miguel (left) rock, 1123 m, and Haman rock, 1124 m, between which runs the river Flumen . It is located at the left end of the National Park of Sierra de Guara .

Legend has it that when the portentous Roldán , commanding the rear of the Carolingian army, withdrew to France, harassed from the south, was surrounded in Amman rock. Roldán, to free themselves from their pursuers , spurred his horse , jumped , reached the rock face , avoiding the abyss , leaving their footprints marked in the rock .

In the mid- Tertiary period , the rivers dragged gravels and songs from the Pyrenees to the Ebro depression These deposits , as consolidated conglomerates, have been carved by rivers giving a columnar forms called ' mallets ' and setting a characteristic and vigorous relief in an essentially limestone environment as is the Sierra de Guara .

El Salto de Roldán was a militarized zone in the city belonging to the Caliphate of Córdoba Huesca . The fort located there was called " Wa Tan Man" . The major war episode lived in that period was the assault of King García Sánchez I of Pamplona in 941 to the defenses of Sen and Men. These positions located on top of the two rocks were recovered the following year by the Muslim lord of Zaragoza , which was celebrated in the Mosque of Cordoba, as stated Gonzalo Martínez Díez in his County Castilla ( 711 - 1038): history versus legend.
